This recipe is a new favourite of mine – it’s perfect for a cacao chocolatey hit, without being sickly like a lot of chocolate drinks can be. I’ve been pretty obsessed with hazelnuts recently, not on their own, but made into nut butter, healthy Nutella (this recipe will be coming to Delve into Dystopia soon – it’s just too good not to share!) and now as a drink. There’s something about the way it goes so well with cacao that I just can’t resist.
I love how this milkshake froths up in the blender (even a low speed blender should be able to do this) because it makes it feel like it’s from a cafe. Something I’ve found with a lot of milkshake type things is how sick and full they make me feel afterwards. This recipe feels light and not too rich so it’s great for a mid-morning snack or afternoon pick-me-up and goes incredibly well alongside a good book and somewhere comfy to lounge.
Feel free to swap out the hazelnut milk for any other plant based milk of your choice. Almond milk and coconut milk work really well here, just make sure to use a coconut milk like this one, not one from a can (it will be way too rich and creamy otherwise!) I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as I do – you can serve it over ice on a hot day, or heat it up to make into a hot chocolate during the colder months. Let me know if you try making it and what you think!
- Add all ingredients to a blender.
- Blend for about 1 minute to fully combine all the ingredients and make it nice and frothy.
- Pour into a glass and enjoy!
