April isn’t as big a month for releases as March was, but that’s not to say there aren’t some pretty incredible books coming out this month.
Tell the Wind and Fire by Sarah Rees Brennan – April 5th
This book’s got me really excited. It’s about a city divided between luxury in the “Light” and deprivation in the “Dark” where a young woman survives by keeping her secrets secret. Lucie Manette was born in the “Dark” side of the city, but managed to win a home in the “Light”, a celebrity status and a rich boyfriend. Whilst all she wants is to keep her head down, her boyfriend has dark secrets of his own. Blood and secrets will spill when revolution breaks out, but who will Luci manage to save – her boy or herself?
Heir to the Sky by Amanda Sun – April 26th
One for fans of fantasy and dystopia, this book follows the story of Kali. She is the Eternal Flame of Hope and heir to a kingdom of floating continents which hovers above a monster-ridden earth, uninhabited by humans for generations. When Kali falls off the edge of her kingdom and survives, it comes as a shock to discover there are still humans on earth. In need of returning home, she befriends Griffin, a monster hunter, to help her across a land of chimera, dragons and basilisks. As she spends more time on earth and more time away from her kingdom she discovers dark truths about her home in the sky that leaves her questioning everything she’s been brought up to believe.
There Once Were Stars by Melanie McFarlane– April 26th
I’m really looking forward to the release of this book, set in a Dome 1618, a city protected from the deadly radiation which has poisoned the outside world for four generations. Nat never questioned the Order, that is until one day she sees a stranger on the outside of the dome. Now she wants answers. There Once Were Stars explores a dystopia I can’t wait to read about and, whilst the idea of a “domed” society has been done before, I’m hoping we’ll see something different here.
